Athlete Profile: Matt Taylor

Meet our athletes!

Athlete’s Name: Matt Taylor

Joined Peninsula CrossFit in: January 2017

Favourite WOD or Movement: Anything involving jumping or running – I can finally string together

more than two consecutive double-unders, so I’ll add those to my faves as well. I also really enjoy the challenge of the heavy lifting (deadlifts, squats, cleans, etc.).

Least favourite WOD or Movement: Pull-ups, without question, are my least favourite. Although the snatch and overhead squats are worth a mention here as well. I’m working on them slowly and hope I can change my opinion about these movements by next year.

Proudest accomplishment: Making the effort to show up to my first class and continue dragging my butt into class ever since then.

Advice for someone just starting CrossFit: Just start – the crew are so encouraging and

there is nothing I’ve done that compares. I used to think I was fairly fit – regularly hiking the Grouse Grind, trail running, etc. And I guess I was fit in a specialized way, but I’ve found this to be a more holistic type of fitness.

Goals for this year: Continue to improve my strength and overall fitness.

What we have to add about this athlete: Matt is such a hardworking person. He motivates everyone else in the class by his put his head down and get the work done grit. He is also a smart athlete and scales where and when it’s beneficial. It’s been awesome seeing him hit so many PRs and earn new skills this year, we’re sure next year will continue to be a huge leap in his fitness journey.
